Who We Are

We are an education law boutique—a label that we take on proudly. Drawing on our collective experience, including our work as the chief lobbyist for the Virginia School Boards Association, we are uniquely positioned to deliver sophisticated legal advice that touches on some of most cutting-edge legal developments in our field. As leaders in our space, educational institutions often turn to us for advice on and to litigate important and developing constitutional issues and other emerging statutory and regulatory areas. Find out more about our practice and firm at www.haneyphinyo.com.

Our Culture

When we left “Big Law” to chart our own course, we were determined to establish a culture that is dogmatically focused on work-life balance, smarts, kindness, and continual learning. We take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We like to laugh (especially at ourselves), have fun, and dress on the “casual” side of business-casual around the office. With a 1,650 billable hours requirement, you too can take comfort in the fact that we take “work-life balance” seriously.

At the same time, we believe in working hard and getting the necessary results for our clients. The cornerstone principle of our firm is providing exceptional value with uncompromising service. As a small boutique law firm, we have a mindset that no work around the office is too insignificant for us to do. We roll up our sleeves and get the work done. This mindset is critical to our success.

To Join Our Team

We are looking for an excellent lawyer who shares our vision. You will have direct client-contact and be given extensive responsibilities, even as a new Associate. But you won’t have to go at it alone. We work as a team and believe in building people up, so you will receive constant training and feedback.

You must be admitted to practice in Virginia, be in good standing with the Virginia State Bar, and should have 1-3 years litigation experience (which may include a judicial clerkship), excellent academic credentials, and strong writing, research, and communication skills.

We offer competitive salary, benefits, and 401(k).

Tell us about who you are and how you see yourself fitting into our vision by submitting, in confidence, a cover letter, resume, and transcript to info@haneyphinyo.com.

Time period of employment: full time, ongoing

  • Deadline to apply: 30 June 2024
  • Anticipated start date: rolling basis
